Someone Bets Bill Gates $10,000 that Windows Vista Won’t Ship by January 2007

Written by: John

I guess Bill Gates recently said that he felt Windows Vista had an 80% chance of shipping by January 2007. Wil Shipley at Call Me Fishmeal took Bill Gates up on his prediction and bet Bill $10,000 that it wouldn’t ship. It is a pretty funny read. I think he has some good points despite his completely bitter tone.

Is It Wrong to Digg on the Toilet? Top 10 Moral Questions With an Always-Connected World

Written by: John

A recent blog post said just like mine: Is It Wrong to Digg on the Toilet? Top 10 Moral Questions With an Always-Connected World This of course couldn’t help but make me laugh. Here’s the tenth reason which is quite enteraining:

10. Is it wrong to Digg while on the toilet?

Sometimes I take my Internet tablet to the bathroom with me at home or pull it out of my pocket when I’m using a public restroom under a wifi cloud. Digg is a favorite site to read because it can be a quick read or it can be surfed for quite a while…if need be. I can also check and write email on this device and routinely do. Is it gross to interact with society during such personal times?

I’m just upset I didn’t do that earlier. More importantly, when I one day build my dream house I’ll be putting tablets in the bathroom so you can surf your favorite websites while taking care of business. Not to mention when you need to be with your son while he’s in the bath. You don’t want him to drown, but trust me you don’t have to watch him the whole time. You’ll be able to hear him playing while you’re enjoying Digg.

Google Romance is Soon a Reality

Written by: John

It looks like Google is now toying with using google as a dating service and could possibly be called Google Romance.

This is what Google posted on April Fool’s Day:

Our mission, as you might have heard, is to organize the world’s information,” said Jonathan Rosenberg, Google’s senior vice president, product management. “And let’s face it: in what area of life is the world’s information more disorganized than romance? We thought we could use our search technology to help you find that special someone, then send you on a date and use contextual ads to help you, ya know - close the deal…

Google’s innovative search technologies connect millions of people around the world with information every second of every minute of every hour of every day…Google’s targeted advertising program provides businesses of all sizes with measurable results, while enhancing the overall web experience for those users who haven’t tuned out of online commerce altogether.

However, they are now allowing people to upload their profiles on google base and they are learning how to search these profiles now. What’s next? An online dating service with Google AdWords alongside to tell you where to go on your date. A very interesting idea. Google does want to organize the World’s information. Romance couldn’t be more disorganized than anything else.

SpiderFan - Trekies Gone Spiderman

Written by: John

I checkout out a Spiderman fan website (http://www.spiderfan.org/) that reminded me of what trekies have been doing for years. Is it really possible that Spiderman fans could love spiderman as much as people seem to love star trek? I don’t think it’s possible because spiderman is really the only famous character. Star Trek had tons of characters that were on every show. I think that is what contributed to the fan base.

One thing that should be pointed out is that the Spiderman fan website that star trek never had. Spiderman has comic books. I think comic book collecting is as big as any other collection I’ve seen. Maybe that’s why fans love it. I think with Spiderman 3 coming out we’ll see more and more SpiderFan’s out there.

I should also point out an image that is shown on the SpiderFan homepage.

SpiderFan Ad

I guess sex sells even in Spiderman. If getting girls to like me is part of being a spiderfan then I better check it out.

What happened to Match.com?

Written by: John

I’ve seen http://www.match.com advertisements all over the web and have often been interested in the site. I mean their ads usually have some hot girl on it that makes me think that maybe they are on to something. Today I ran across their website again and what did I find? A big picture of Dr. Phil. I’m not sure who they are trying to market to, but what are they doing with Dr. Phil on the front page? Maybe they’ve found that older people pay more for matchmaking service and so Dr. Phil fits that market. Maybe Dr. Phil paid them hordes of cash to put his picture up there. However, I’m sure it was the opposite way…Dr. Phil got paid to be on Match.com.

Otherwise, the site kind of sucks because you pretty much can’t do anything unless you log in. I guess if I was single it would be worth a try. Otherwise, I just watch the space because I worked in it previously.

Student City - A College Spring Break Site

Written by: John

I think the worst part of any spring break is having to plan the trip. Student City http://www.studentcity.com has made a lot of that work much easier. Check out their videos, travel deals, or photos and see what I’m talking about. They have a bunch of spring break jobs also which could be interesting for those wanting to get paid to spring break.

I also liked how they had ski colorado listed. While not the normal spring break adventure it’s nice that they have something other than just the beach.
