Mia Michaels and Other SYTYCD Choreographers Dancing

Written by: John

Near the beginning of So You Think You Can Dance, I read someone suggest that SYTYCD should have the various choreographers dance on the show. Ok, I think this is a great idea if we’re talking about Wade Robson, Lil C, Shane Sparks, Tice D’orio, etc. However, there are a number of choreographers that I respect and enjoy as choreographers and professionals, but I never want to see them dance. My short list for now includes: Mary Murphy, Nigel Lythgote (sp?) and more than any of the others Mia Michaels.

Take a look at the following video and see what I mean about Mia Michaels dancing.

It’s nothing personal. I’d say the same thing about myself dancing on SYTYCD. Not something that America wants to see. She’s a great choreographer and I usually like her as a judge, but I don’t want to see her dance.

Who else did I miss? Oh, I wouldn’t mind seeing Tabitha and Napoleon do a little number.

A Little Pre SYTYCD Chat

Written by: John

Today, Rocky and myself were chatting about tonight’s SYTYCD top 10 show. I thought it might be of interest to our readers. Feel free to chime in with your thoughts in the comments. Also, let me know if you think a SYTYCD chat on this blog would be cool too.

Rocky says:
I’m with you! I can’t wait till the sytycd comes on tonight….but I’m not looking forward to Thursdays anymore.
John says:
why not?
John says:
it will make you cry?
John says:
2 hours tonight…should be good
Rocky says:
I think what I will feel most is annoyed For the next few weeks elimination will be strictly fanbase without regards to quality of performance on Wednesday. Every season good dancers go home because weaker ones still have pity votes.
Rocky says:
Kherington may well go home tonight and that will make me sad.
John says:
nope…she can’t go home…i won’t let her
John says:
everyone said that twitch was carrying her, but I think that she might have been carrying twitch, although since they were in the bottom 3 it’s hard to say either was carrying the other
John says:
tonight should be exciting, because it’s the night where they get new partners
Rocky says:
I know, that makes it exciting to see what everyone can do with new partners. I’ve read that overall it will be a good show. They are doing a group Bollywood routine Thursday night, I can’t wait. I love it.
John says:
sweet…i loved the previous Bollywood number. Bollywood can be really cool if done right or really bad if done wrong. Like most dances really
Rocky says:
Very true, but for this show, I’m sure they will make it good! The dancers will be doing another routine on Thursday, as well. One with just the females, and one with just the males. Mia choreographed the one for the girls so it will be interesting, for sure.
John says:
Well, I’m biased and will certainly love almost any dance with all females. Mia can do some really cool stuff, but some of her stuff is just weird. I definitely haven’t drunk the Mia koolaid. She’s very talented, but not God.
Rocky says:
I agree, she’s not the world’s greatest choreographer but I love weird and quirky so most of her routines are great to me.
John says:
I’m really looking forward to the show…nothing like a beautiful Wednesday night of SYTYCD
Rocky says:
Agreed. Lots of dancing tonight. Two dances per couple and a solo each.

Mia Michaels Top 14 Contemporary Routines - Katee and Joshua - Twitch and Kherington

Written by: John

As promised here’s the 2 videos of the Mia Michaels routines from the top 14 of So You Think You Can Dance.

Katee and Joshua danced the heck out of this one. I really like the way they performed it. I wasn’t so into the routine myself, but sometimes Mia is hard to understand. However, Katee and Joshua definitely gave their whole selfs to the routine.

Enjoy the video of Katee and Joshua’s top 24 contemporary routine:

I think Twitch and Kherington’s bed routine will be the most memorable dance of the season even if I prefer the Viennese Waltz they did earlier in the season. Either way, the bed idea of Mia Michaels is an incredible concept that Twitch and Kherington really performed amazingly. The expressions on Twitch and Kherington’s face were priceless and expressed such emotion.

Enjoy the video of Twitch and Kherington’s top 14 contemporary bed routine

I’m pretty sure that Mia Michaels will have a choreographer job on SYTYCD for a long time to come.

Flashback: Benji Schwimmer’s Solo in the Finale

Written by: John

Seeing Benji Schwimmer on the show tonight was a lot of fun. I don’t think he did the best choreography tonight, but I think he is the most famous SYTYCD alum out there. He definitely deserved to win and I think that this solo pretty much shows his versatility and ability to please the crowd.

I don’t think we have a Benji this season, but still plenty of talent to go around. Also, it’s worth going back and watching my favorite Benji and Heidi video and a close runner up.
