Simon Cowell Ready to Take Larger Role in American Idol

Written by: John

Pure So You Think You Can dance reported that Nigel Lythgote was leaving American Idol to focus more of his time on So You Think You Can Dance and another project with Simon Fuller. No sooner did Nigel leave than Simon Cowell started moving into his office. Maybe not literally, but Simon seems to talk like he’s taking over a lot of the duties that Nigel did in the past. Here’s a quote from Access Hollywood:

You must never depend on one person. I don’t think we would have had the success initially without Nigel but we are onto our eighth season. It feels like it’s going to be a different show this year because of it and we will see whether that’s an advantage or a negative.”

With Nigel there it became too much of a crowd and he is a very good producer but I think now he has stepped down I probably will get more involved. I already have to be honest with you.

Simon has a good point that more than Nigel work on the show. Let’s hope that a show isn’t dependent on just one person. However, people could argue quite well that Simon Cowell taking over more of the show isn’t a good thing. I tend to agree.
