Understanding Hosting Performance

Written by: John

When my previous Wordpress.com website got torn down because of a supposed TOS violation, I had to quickly choose a host of my own so that I could move my blog to a new place. Of course I didn’t spend the time that I needed to in order to select a reliable host. Of course after I’ve already chosen a host I found a place called Real Metrics (www.realmetrics.com) that does all of the testing for you. They measure thousands of things from a variety of hosts. It’s a great place to select a host from a whole variety of factors. My favorite measurement is how quickly support responds to you. That’s VERY important for you to know before choosing a host. You don’t want to be wondering what’s going on with your host.

The New Sexy Google Groups Beta

Google has done a redesign of its groups. It’s pretty cool to see how Google continues to innovate it’s beta products which are as good as production. That’s pretty amazing that most of this stuff was created in the 20% of time that is given to Google employees.

The new features of Google groups is really a great enhancement that should open them up for more groups to finally use them. Before they seemed almost more like a spam area.
