First BYU Bowl Game in West in 11 Years
Written by: JohnThat is altogether too long to wait for a bowl game to be held here in the west. I think the MWC finally got things right by getting contracts with bowls in Las Vegas, San Diego and San Francisco. Memphis is probably a wonderful place to live, but not an ideal site for BYU(or 90 % of NCAA football teams) to play a football game. It just doesn’t make sense even if more money is made in the liberty bowl. There has to be very little prestige gained by attending the Liberty Bowl compared to the Las Vegas Bowl. In fact, you might even catch a couple football fanatics at the Las Vegas bowl during the holidays, but not even the most diehard football fan would be in memphis for the holidays and want to go to the liberty bowl.
My apologies go out to all those members of the church in the Memphis area. Sure, you supported BYU nicely and still kept BYU with a good name as far as attendace goes. However, even you would have to agree that playing a game in the sun or the snow is a no brainer.
The only real problem I see now is that half of the Las Vegas mormon community relocates itself to Utah for the holiday season. Let’s hope that the Las Vegas Bowl in Sam Boyd Stadium can still be filled like the BYU vs. UNLV game. By the third quarter of that game the stadium felt like a BYU home game.
