Wyoming Fans do Hate BYU

Written by: CrashUtah

How many times have you heard a BYU fan say that it seems like everyone in the Mountain West Conference just loves to beat BYU. Well, now I have proof that it’s at least true for one team. I now work at a school that is in the Mountain West Conference that is not BYU. As part of my daily work I received an email from a colleague at Wyoming. At the end of his email he put something like this in the P.S.:

P.S. Your team beat Wyoming this week, but I won’t hold that against you. Go Wyoming, and anyone who beats BYU!!

As I read the email I was a little confused because BYU didn’t play Wyoming that week. I checked the schedule just to make sure and sure enough we hadn’t. Then , I realized that he was referring to “my team” as the University I now work for. Oh was he wrong, but how great is it for me to see that he really does want BYU to lose just as much as I want the Utes to lose.

You can imagine my contented heart when I emailed him back and said that I was a BYU fan and sent him a link to this page. Aren’t rivalries great?

Yes, the BYU Basketball Season Isn’t Over

Written by: CrashUtah

With the great win against the dreadful Utes(yes they would be dreadful no matter how you slice it and dice it). This was a good win. Losing against Air Force and again against Utah would be a devastating start to the Mountain West Conference season. I just don’t think BYU could have recovered.

For now let’s rejoice and praise the Lord tomorrow in church. I don’t think it was the prettiest game I’ve seen. I’d like to see a little more consistency, but I guess I expect perfection when you play for BYU. I’ll comment more on the BYU players later. Time to Celebrate!!

BYU Basketball Game Free from ESPN Full Court

Written by: CrashUtah

ESPN Full Court is offering a FREE Preview of their ESPN Full Court which allows you to watch all the NCAA games on your computer. You can see all the information you need here: http://proxy.espn.go.com/ncb/fullcourt/index?campaign=FC06&source=TTopen_INoffer

This is great that the free game is against those wretched Utah Utes on Saturday at the Marriot Center. Should be a good game as long as a poor looking Utah squad doesn’t beat BYU when they’re being broadcast for free.

This would be cool for all the Mountain West Conference games since it is free from January 3-8. Should give us a good preview of most of the teams in the conference.

BYU Football Season in Review

Written by: CrashUtah

As we take a look back at the cougars football season it is difficult to look at the final 6-6 record. 7-5 would have looked so much better, but it was not to be. Either way, I think everyone around the program can feel a different energy. I still feel that Crowton should have been given another year considering the recruiting cycle, but that’s a subject for a different post. There is a good feeling around the BYU program that has the sense of a winning team with a winning attitude and a winning ethic. It’s a feeling that can’t be quantified in wins and losses this first year.

There’s also a lot of good to look at beyond the record. Finishing second in the Mountain West Conference despite being picked to finish 6th. The best part of this finish is that we were ahead of Utah. What more could a cougar fan want(besides a win against Utah and a bowl win). Also, if you look at the 2 overtime loses against TCU and Utah that could have been turned the other way and left BYU the Mountain West Conference Champ. Does that make them any better of a team? No, and I would argue that the 2 overtime losses is going to help shape and define the team giving them that sour taste next year when they meat TCU and Utah with John Beck, Johnny Harline and Curtis Brown all ready to blow it out their senior year.

I’m highlighting the good points of the past season, because I’m a cougar fan. That’s what this boards about. I’m not afraid of considering other points, but don’t be surprised if every piece of bad news becomes a Pollyanna positive on this board.

WIN WIN Utah’s Play in a Bowl Game

Written by: CrashUtah

I think it is great that Utah made it to a Bowl game and has such a formidable challenge. Too bad just like BYU’s loss to Cal Utah’s loss to Georgia Tech isn’t going to do anything to help with the Mountain West Conference’s hopes of cracking the BCS.

Thankfully in the mind of a BYU fan Utah playing in a bowl game is a complete WIN WIN. If they win the bowl game then it will help raise the position of the Mountain West Conference which could eventually put more money in the pockets of BYU. More importantly, if they lose then it is a win for BYU fans that just love to see Utah lose.

“Utes Rediscover wining ways in easy home win”

Written by: CrashUtah

What a great article title after Utah got whipped by Arizona and comes back to beat a Div. II school. Nothing against Adams State(where is that school from anyway?), but they are no Arizona. If that’s the winning ways that Utah is back to then BYU’s in for a great basketball season! For all the Utah fans out there they might want to start getting some buffets ready to lure Majerus back to the Utes.

Classless Utes

Written by: steel_cougar

Just an observation….Kyle Whittingham has no class and no brains. I quote from the Salt Lake Tribune: ‘The coach doesn’t see much difference between 5-5 or BYU’s 6-4.
“It’s two teams playing that have had mediocre seasons,” Whittingham said. “That’s the bottom line. Six-and-four, 5-5. That’s mediocre on both counts.” ‘

Okay, whatever…..we win and we’re 7-4, after starting the season 1-3. I guess when you’ve been at the top the last couple of years like them, and lost four of your last five, you’re pretty pessimistic about 5-6 or 6-5. We, on the other hand, haven’t had much to be excited about at the end of the season the last few years. But now we’ve won five of the last six, and when you’ve climbed up all the way from the bottom, you’re much closer to the top, so you’re gonna be pretty dang excited about where you’re at.

Look what’s on the line if we win….locking up a bowl berth, a shot at an 8-4 season with this and the LV Bowl, and to top it all off, not only do we beat our hated #$%@^$ rivals to the north, but we shut them out of the postseason. Then they get a better idea of exactly how we’ve felt the last few years when they beat us. Go Cougars!
