Drafted BYU Players in the NFL Draft 2006 - Todd Watkins

It was pretty much a disappointment for the BYU football team in the 2006 NFL Draft. The only player drafted this year was Todd Watkins. He was drafted 218 overall in the 10th round by the Arizona Cardinals. Should be an interesting place to be with Matt Leinhart (although Kurt Warner will probably be the quarterback this year) and all the other young wide receivers they have in Arizona. Luckily, wide reciever is one position that can handle having a bunch of different wide receivers and have them successful(unlike running back).

Here’s the other BYU senior football players that have a chance of being signed by teams:

Manaia Brown DT 6′2″ 301 BYU
Vince Feula DT 6′0″ 300 BYU
Daniel Marquardt DT 6′2″ 315 BYU
Lance Reynolds OC 6′3″ 292 BYU
Brian Sanders OG 6′3″ 316 BYU
Nathan Soelberg CB 6′0″ 172 BYU
Naufahu Tahi FB 5′11″ 254 BYU
Paul Walkenhorst OLB 6′5″ 252 BYU

Next year should be a much more interesting draft for BYU.

A Few BYU Draft Prospects 2006

Here’s a list of the best NFL prospects for BYU in the NFL draft. I think all three will get drafted quite well. I’m very interested to see how far Todd Watkins falls down the draft board since he has the athletic skills, but hasn’t been so reliable. Manaia Brown will be interesting because of the injury. Fahu Tahi is going to land on a team and contribute. I think he’s too big and powerful not to. BYU should do pretty well in the draft.

Manaia Brown
MANAIA BROWN
Position: Defensive tackle
Height: 6-2

What they’re saying: “Thick, athletic defensive lineman best on the inside, explodes off the snap with a great first step.”

Fahu Tahi
FAHU TAHI
Position: Fullback
Height: 6-0
Weight: 256
What they’re saying: “Quite possibly one of the most underrated fullbacks in the draft. Tahi is efficient in all areas of the game.”

Todd Watkins
TODD WATKINS

Is there anything better than Spring Football?

I haven’t had too much time to post to my BYU blog much lately, but don’t think that I’m not following all that’s happening with BYU sports. I love spring practice almost more than the season. It is a great time with great expectations about the coming season. It is amazing how much hype can be built up during spring football. If teams were judged by potential at spring football then we’d have a lot of national champions. One wouldn’t be enough.

Things I really liked:
Linebackers - Talk about depth
Running Backs - I’m glad Curtis is finally getting the nod. Manase Tonga, Ray Hudson, Wayne Latu are going to be heard in a few years. Does anyone remember Latu(possibly third on the depth chart) running at the UNLV game last year? He looked good. At least we don’t have to worry about injuries nearly as much at this position
Special Teams - At least our kicking has experience this year.

Things that worry me:
Quarterback - Can John Beck really break it out? Who is going to step up if injury plagues us again?
Lines - Injuries and inexperience? Yes, it is spring
Secondary - This should be on the list every year. Has BYU ever had a cornerback make it to the NFL?

Jonny Harline Not Starting?

I was recently reading an article about the tight ends available to BYU football next year. I really like what I see. However, the article insinuated that Jonny Harline isn’t guaranteed to start. This is true, he could be hit by a bus and then he wouldn’t start. Otherwise, if he is healthy he is going to start. Anything else is just a joke and a method for a reporter to get more people to read. Coats is good, but Harline is going to be the starter. How could someone be the leading receiver last year and the next year not start? Other than injury or honor code violations I can’t think of a way.

I started a brand new fundraising blog that I expect to do pretty well. It is about fundraising. It will be posts about the fundraising market and things of that nature. I have had this idea to do a website that helps high school sports teams and really any sports teams raise money. So, I figured if I became an expert fundraising blogger then I could generate some traffic for my new idea. Here’s the new fundraising ideas website link:

I also have a personal blog which I post to occassionally.
