BYU’s First 2 Mountain West Conference Games

Written by: CrashUtah

How did BYU end up with 2 terrible games to start off the Conference schedule? I know that they didn’t know how good Air Force would be when they set the schedule, but this is going to be a brutal week for BYU(unless they win). As much as I’d like for BYU to win both of these games I think it’s going to be pretty unlikely. Winning both would leave BYU in the driver’s seat. Losing both would be pretty detrimental to the season. I expect us to go 1-1 and be stuck still not knowing where BYU is going to end. At least in basketball there’s almost no way we won’t make it to the Mountain West Conference tournament and that leaves us a chance to go to the NCAA tournament. Ok, that’s a long shot, but we can still continue hoping.

More importantly I hope if we go 1-1 we beat Utah. There’s nothing worse than losing to Utah.

Comments from Marriot Center Game

Written by: CrashUtah

Here’s a few questions and comments about my visit to the Tulsa game in the Marriot Center on Friday.

When I was watching warm up it seemed like all the big men were shooting layups from the left side with their right hand. That seemed a bit odd to me. It seems like everyone would teach that you shoot with the left hand on the left side. In fact, I saw Keena Young do it and I wondered why he couldn’t use his left and then I saw Dawes do it to. Anyone have some insight as to why they would do it? Is it taught to do that when you are so tall?

The pictures on the big screen are horrible. When the players were getting introduced their pictures were just messed up. Ok, so Cummard looks a little odd in person, but even Coach Rose was looking like the picture was stretched. Can’t they figure out how to put some quality pictures up? If they need some help I’d be happy to use GIMP and do some photoshop work.

Who started the tradition that one guy that doesn’t start and often doesn’t get to play(although Keena Young was there for BYU) is at the end of the line when the starting line up is called out. They come out and bump chests, give a gang sign or some sort of high five salute. How does someone get elected for that job? At least Tulsa looked ok because they didn’t have any cheerleaders and so that last guy looked like he was part of the team. Keena just looked like he was out there by himself. While I’ve seen it a lot, I’m not sure why people do it. It can’t help them get that pumped up can it? Leave that for the big circle cheer after the starting line up is called.
