BYU Loss is SO Depressing
Written by: CrashUtahWhen I was at BYU I thought I understood why BYU had a counseling center and more importantly why it was so busy. I was sure it had to do with the pressure to get married and more importantly misunderstandings by men and women at BYU of the impetus to get married so soon or otherwise there must be something wrong with you. After the crushing overtime disappointment I now figured out the real reason. BYU losing(and even more importantly losing to the Utes) sends BYU fans into an ugly depression.
I’m scheduling my appointment for Monday.
A Little Perspective
Written by: CrashUtah“As you step outside of football and look at life, when you cross that finish line, I don’t think our Father will care what position we finished or whether we were the fastest or slowest.” -Bronco Mendenhall at Fireside before BYU/Utah Game
I agree. Mostly because I’m nearing the slowest category.
Classless Utes
Written by: steel_cougarJust an observation….Kyle Whittingham has no class and no brains. I quote from the Salt Lake Tribune: ‘The coach doesn’t see much difference between 5-5 or BYU’s 6-4.
“It’s two teams playing that have had mediocre seasons,” Whittingham said. “That’s the bottom line. Six-and-four, 5-5. That’s mediocre on both counts.” ‘
Okay, whatever…..we win and we’re 7-4, after starting the season 1-3. I guess when you’ve been at the top the last couple of years like them, and lost four of your last five, you’re pretty pessimistic about 5-6 or 6-5. We, on the other hand, haven’t had much to be excited about at the end of the season the last few years. But now we’ve won five of the last six, and when you’ve climbed up all the way from the bottom, you’re much closer to the top, so you’re gonna be pretty dang excited about where you’re at.
Look what’s on the line if we win….locking up a bowl berth, a shot at an 8-4 season with this and the LV Bowl, and to top it all off, not only do we beat our hated #$%@^$ rivals to the north, but we shut them out of the postseason. Then they get a better idea of exactly how we’ve felt the last few years when they beat us. Go Cougars!
BYU Opens Against Loyola Marymount
Written by: CrashUtahWhat an auspicious beginning to a basketball season. A loss to Loyola Marymount probably won’t kill any NCAA chances but it doesn’t help. A few thoughts on the first game:
Total Attendance: 9,826
I can’t remember the capacity of the Marriot Center, but it sure seems like we should be able to pack more Cougars into the stadium than that. Sure, it isn’t a high profile team. Sure, we have a new coach with a new set of players. Give me a break. It is the first game of the season so every BYU fan should have in mind that we are undefeated and have a chance to be good. Second, we have a new coach with a new set of players. That should be interest enough to see how good they are going to be. Third, this is the weekend of the biggest BYU football game of the year. How many alumni are in Provo for the Utah football game that should attend the BYU basketball game too?
Quote of the Game
“We are a lot better than we were last year, I can tell you that,” -Mike Rose, Junior.
I think(and hope) Mike is right, but I’m not sure his returning from a mission did anything to help that. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to enjoy Mike Rose on the court. It was so promising when he hit 8 3 pointers against Utah State(if my memory is correct). Too bad ever since then he’s been dominated by oversized faster guards who don’t let him even shoot an open 3. Granted he could whip most normal people head to head with his shooting. Too bad BYU basketball doesn’t play the normal ball player. NCAA talent is just too fast, too big and can’t jump too high for Mike. Maybe Mike can get some new shoes to make him run faster and jump higher.
Big Men Dominating BYU
Another BYU game, another time where BYU gets dominated by the opponent’s Big man. Where’s Rafeal Araujo when you need him? Too bad he couldn’t stay longer.
