Moving to London – Finding a House or Flat to Let

My friend just moved to England which was a major change for her and her life. I’m glad she did it because I think it will give her exposure to an entirely different culture which will change her perspective on life. As you can imagine, coming from the US she was faced with some interesting challenges in renting an apartment(or should I say Letting a Flat). Besides having to figure out the language she had to try to find a place to live all the way across the sea.

Those looking for a place to live in England are lucky because there is an extremely clean website for finding houses and flats to let called Zoomf. This UK Property Search Engine reminds me of the style that Google has made so popular. Simple and to the point. Adds are out the window and it focuses on just what you are trying to do…rent an apartment let a flat.

Even more important is the way it displays the available property listings for you. It’s integration with Google maps is superb. Every real estate site in the world should look at what they’ve done. I don’t know how many hours I’ve spent copy and pasting an address into Google maps so I could see where it was located. You do of course have to take the description with a grain of salt. I think we’d all be surprised if there was a listing that said it was in a bad part of town, run down, needed maintenance and the neighbors were really loud. However, with the floor plans, the pictures, and the description you get a really good idea of what your getting yourself into right online.

If they add a video tour of the house to the site then I think I might just have to find a flat to let and move to England.
