Getting a Residential Mortgage to Buy a Home

The American dream is to buy a home and own land. Don’t ask me why. It’s just something that is deeply rooted in all of us. Maybe it goes back to our heritage where owning land was a sign of power and honor. By owning land you showed that you could provide for your heritage.

Whatever it is, purchasing your own land and specifically purchasing your own home is one of the most important things in a person’s life. Owning that first home is a time to be proud. Owning your first home is one of the most exciting and scary days of your life. You are embarking on the American dream and purchasing a home.

Too bad you have to go through all the pains and decisions of figuring out mortgages and how it all works. Of course there is the term of the mortgage and the interest rate which changes daily. Those are rather easy except they’ve now got so many different types of terms for mortgages that you have to choose 10, 20, 30, 50 years for the term of the mortgage. How do you know which one to choose?

Of course besides the term and interest rate of a mortgage they throw in things like 3 and 5 year arms. I already have 2 arms so why do I need an arm on a mortgage? You can purchase points for your mortgage, you have a down payment and you are trying to get to 20% of the purchase price so you don’t have to pay mortgage insurance which just adds to your payment. Let’s not even get started on interest only loans or having 2 loans to be able to avoid the mortgage insurance.

Sounds like a nightmare to me. Is owning a home really the American dream?

Well, it is so let me offer you one piece of advice that will help you more than anything. Ask lots of questions and talk to multiple mortgage brokers. If you don’t know where to go for a mortgage broker then check out a website like Myhomething - Online Marketplace for Mortgage Brokers and Lenders. You fill out one profile with Myhomething and you will get in contact with a number of mortgage brokers and lenders that fit your unique home buying needs.

Myhomething also offers a number of other services that provide: residential real estate, financing, home improvement, moving services, and soon to come insurance.

Once you get in touch with these different mortgage brokers and lenders then ask lots of questions and get all the information you need to make your home buying experience a good one.
