Nice Video of A 5 Year Old Playing Violin Around the World

This came across my twitter stream and I just had to post it. In the same kind of theme as Where the Hell is Matt?, this video shows a little girl playing the violin all over the world.

I bet the stories they can tell are even better than the video. You can read more about the video and this little girl on the soultravelers3 website.

VIrtual Video Tour of Free Las Vegas Tourist Spots

At one point I thought that it would be fun to create a virtual video tour of Las Vegas. I still think that it would be possible. Although it would be better if you just found all the videos on YouTube and put them all together.

Anyway, I’ve kind of lost interest and this post has been sitting there forever. So, here’s the links I’ve found. I’m too lazy to make them actual links so sorry you’ll have to copy and paste them.

This also turns out to be a decent list of things to do in Las Vegas (and looking now some of them I never found good videos).

Bellagio Fountains

RIO – Masquerade Show in the Sky

Walk Caesar’s Palace – I love to just see what they created. It’s like a little city in itself.

Light Show at Fremont Experience

Volcano – I forget where this is, but it’s close to Caesars. If you ask anyone they’ll know where it is.
Pirate Ship Show – Treasure Island – I heard this isn’t kid friendly, so since I’m a kid I haven’t seen it

BlogWorld Expo 2007 – My Italian Friend

Posted on: November 8, 2007 I Written By

Test to see if this appears.

Today I decided to stop by BlogWorld Expo over my lunch. I figured I should at least stop by and say hi to a few people. It’s been pretty much as expected. Although, I must tell you that I was a bit surprised. Of course, the first thing that I wanted to do when I got here was to pull out my laptop and blog about it. In fact, as I walked I was just thinking about all the things that could be blogged about.

Well, I pulled out my laptop when I saw the bloggers lounge so I could blog and it turns out that the girl I’m sitting next to speaks Italian. Of course this is very excited for me since I love to speak Italian. To make it even more odd, the girl and guy that were sitting across the way were also speaking Italian (Update: on second hear, it might have been spanish). I’m not sure why, because the girl next to me is actually from france and pretty much speaks every language of the European Union. Was it just coincidence that everyone at this table speaks Italian (including me)? I think not. I should have put up a sign that said “Italian Table.”

I guess there is one other possibility of what was happening. The girl next to me is from a travel search website called Mobissimo. I guess it’s similar to Kayak or Sidestep, but she said that it searches something like 180 sites (the website says 176 sites) for the best deals which makes them larger than Kayak or Sidestep. Maybe later I’ll have to do a test to see if the extra sites find better deals or if maybe it is just better on an international level and the US sites are the same. I do think I’ll try it out for finding a rental car for my trip to Hawaii.

Turns out that it was the same price as what I would have found on travelocity, but I like it better since it’s much nicer for me to purchase it on as opposed to I just have more faith that I can change it if there are problems. I imagine Mobissimo is taking a cut from referrals. Either way, the process was seamless. Mobissimo could use a bit of work on the look of their site and I was sad they didn’t have the ajax city search so I only had to type Hon instead of Honolulu. However, it was pretty fast.

Interestingly, I really did need a rental car for our trip to Hawaii so I decided to book our rental using Mobissimo. Who would have thought that it would be beneficial for Beatrice, Co-founder and CEO of Mobissimo to go to a Blogger conference?

Heading to Italy for a Bit

Test to see if this appears.

Well, as you can see my blog hasn’t gotten much activity lately. I wish I could say that things were going to get better, but the fact is that you probably won’t see many posts from me for the next 2-3 weeks. I’m going to Italy with my wife. I will give you a little look at where we’re headed in Italy.

We’ll be flying into Rome arriving about 10 AM. We’ll spend most the afternoon going around Rome. I think that Trevi Fountains, and the spanish steps are tops on my list of places to see in Rome. I also love going to St. Peter’s and watching the painters.

After touring Rome we’ll hope on a train and head down to my friend’s place in Napoli. She is the sweetest lady. She said she’d have dinner waiting for us and a key to her house so we can just come and go as we please.

The next morning we’ll be touring some of Italy and I definitely have to hit Piazza Garibaldi to get me a suit and some other Sunday clothes for church. I was also told that there will be a baptism Saturday night. This happened last time I went to Napoli (truthfully Pozzuoli). It’s so much fun, because I get a chance to see a bunch of the members all at once. The next morning I’m sure we’ll enjoy church in probably the most beautiful chapel I’ve ever seen. Well, at least the view from the chapel is the best.

Monday we’ve got a nice hotel lined up in the beautiful town of Amalfi. We’ll probably check in to our hotel as early as possible and then head up for a little hike to the waterfalls just above Amalfi where they use to make paper. It’s an incredible hike that feels like you’ve gone into a completely different world. Got to love Valle Dei Mullini.

After spending the night in Amalfi, we’ll be taking an early morning “chicken bus” up to my favorite place in Italia:Sentiero degli Dei (Trail of the Gods). It’s about a 4 and a half hour hike. At the end of the hike there are 1000 steps to reach the beautiful city of Positano below. We’ve got a hotel lined up in Positano which will be a certainly welcome relief.

Napoli – Pompeii and Vesuvius
The next morning we haven’t decided exactly what we’ll do, but we’re considering heading to Pompeii since it’s in the area. However, if we’re too tired we might head back to Napoli and go to Pompeii later. I would love to take the boat from Positano back to Napoli. The boat is a lot of fun and a nice soothing ride.

After spending a couple days with friends in Napoli, we’ll be heading for a romantic weekend in Venice. I can’t say anything about Venice. It’s absolutely the most unique place I’ve ever been. It’s Romantic. It’s incredible and I can’t wait to stroll the streets with my wife. Not to mention a nice gondola ride.

I’ll be meeting a friend of mine in Bologna. We’ll be attending church in Bologna which should be interesting since we’ve never been there. I’d rather go to church somewhere else, but I really want to see my friend Maria Rosaria so we’ll do what we have to do. Sunday after church my friend will pick us up and after eating some of her mother’s fine fine Italian cooking we’ll be heading to Florence.

We haven’t decided how many days we should spend in Florence. We’ll stay at least a day and up to 4 days. I must admit that my wife and I aren’t that into art and so I’m not sure how long we’ll want to stay in Florence. I think we’re probably going to want to head back to Napoli to spend more time with friends.

Well, that’s the general round up of our trip through Italy. Most things are subject to change, but it doesn’t really matter. No matter where we go or what we do we have nothing to worry about, because the best part of Italy is….

Hopefully I’ll be able to at least blog a little from Italy, but if I can’t then we’ll see you after our trip.

Travel Travel and More Travel

I’m not sure I can think of many things I like more than traveling. I’m trying, but so far nothing really comes to mind. I love seeing places. I’ve already got a trip to Italy planned in 2 months and I also am almost confirmed for a trip to Hawaii in November. However, 2 days ago I had a phone conversation with my friend who lives in Cyprus and I couldn’t help but think how much fun it would be to have Cyprus Holidays.

That Dialaflight website is pretty cool because it is a website that employs people who have actually been to the destination. I think this is a great feature of a vacation site. I know that I can tell people some really unique places to visit in Italy because I’ve been there and lived there. Same goes for Hawaii. It’s just different if you’ve been there. You know what to expect. You also know what not to expect.

Here’s a list of places that Dialaflight has information from people who’ve been there.

St Petersburg

I put the places I’ve already visited in bold. Not nearly enough. I think I might just want to take this list and make it my to do list of places I want to visit.

A Holiday in Florida at Disney World – Or is it Work?

Posted on: October 4, 2006 I Written By

Test to see if this appears.

Florida Holidays have got to be some of the best holidays you can experience. I’ve blogged before about how many great places they have to visit in Florida. Just start listing the Disney empire and you have enough reason to go there (Disney World, Epcot Center, Universal Studios, etc etc etc).

However, if you really want to enjoy Florida then I’m going to let you in on a secret of how to make your Florida getaway the best there is. The secret is to find a conference in Orlando that you can attend. I’m sure you’re seeing what I’m getting at. By attending a conference in Orlando then you are able to go to the conference with work taking care of the most expensive parts (like your flight to Florida).

I’m doing the same next weekend for a conference in Dallas. Yeah, I know Dallas isn’t nearly as good as Florida, but you can’t go to Florida every year. Maybe next year I’ll find a great conference to attend in Florida. That’s what I call work!

Map Mashups for Travel and Tourism

Test to see if this appears.

I am working out the details to attend a conference called Educause in Dallas next month and I’m sad that they really haven’t embraced technology like they should. I really just wish that they would make a Map Mashup of the Dallas area and especially the hotels. This conference is enormous and so it has at least 8-10 different hotels as conference hotels. Why a technology conference can’t create a map mashup is beyond me. It would make Hotel Selection much easier and they could even add on other important locations like the Dallas Convention Center. That might be good to know.

So, all you Convention and Vistors Bureau (CVB), chamber of commerce, travel, tourism, hospitality, hotel, vacation rentals or any other sort of travel opportunity needs to make a Map Mashup before I start going insane. They’ve gotten so much easier to create now that no one has an excuse. Especially not a technology conference.

An Escape To Panama

The wonderful and beautiful Estelle Reyna has taken the country of Panama and made it something special. Estelle has a special connection with panama. She’s said that Playa Bonita and the “Gamboa Rainforest Resort” are some of her favorite places to stay when visiting the country. I especially recommend checking out the video of Estelle at the grand opening of the Playa Bonita.

Estelle has the time of her life at the Grand Opening of the Playa Bonita Resort, the new “Bern Hotel” in Panama

Estelle’s work in Panama has helped over 300 million people around the world to find the beautiful country of Panama. If you watch the video of Playa Bonita you can kind of see that they guy she’s interviewing almost seems nervous around her. Sure, she’s an attractive lady, but even more so she’s a celebrity. In fact, her shows have a huge impact on travel. Her television shows airs on over 800 television stations around the world, her web site greets more than 100,000 unique visitors per day coming from over 150 countries and she has more than 100,000 podcast subscribers. No wonder the guy was nervous.

Estelle interviews Ruben Blades, Panama Minister of Tourism and former music and movie star.

I lived in Hawaii, but honestly from the looks of it, Panama must be the ultimate vacation destination. I love that it has the beaches, the play, the beauty, the culture and the history which all contribute to an amazing vacation spot. Estelle, if you are listening…how about you take me along with you as a guest host? We could sit on the beach. Try some surfing. Check out the rainforest. Shop in the markets. Enjoy the spa. Check out the Panama canal. Dance the night away. Eat delicious food.

Sounds like heaven to me. From the looks of it, it might just be.

One of the many fantastic views visitors can enjoy from the Gamoboa Rainforest Resort.

Hawaii Truely is Paradise for Any Traveler

I moved to where I currently live from the beautiful islands of Hawaii. People still ask me why I moved back and I really don’t have a good answer. The best I can say is family, but even then I still wonder to myself why I moved back. Hawaii really is the paradise that you see on TV and the movies. It is everything I ever dreamed it to be.

You may have been to other beach travel destinations in Florida or California. I don’t know about the rest of you, but when I go there they were fun, but overall the beaches were a complete disappointment. The water was FREEZING cold, the beaches were brown or grey and it was so hard pack I might as well have been walking on a cement path.

Hawaii is nothing like that. Hawaii’s beaches are just as good as any beach you may have seen on TV. It’s the real deal. They are beautiful white sand almost everywhere and the water is a beautiful green and blue that really is breathe taking. It truely has beaches worth visiting and enjoying on a vacation.

Estelle goes for a stroll then a swim on a Kauai beach

While the beaches are great, I get even more excited about the beautiful water when I have a surf board in my hand. I personally recommend paying someone who knows what they are doing and where to go to surf when you go to Hawaii. If you try it on your own you might get lucky, but in the end you’ll probably pay the price as you hit wave after wave that is too small or too big where it wallops you. However, I had a great instructor who knew when and where to go and I had the time of my life surfing in Hawaii. With the great water and the great beaches it is truely ideal. I don’t care if you don’t think you can surf either. If Reyna can get up on a surf board then you can too.

Estelle is enjoying the great surf near Princeville, Kauai (Hawaii)

However, the beach isn’t the only thing in Hawaii. In fact, there are some places of Hawaii that are more amazing than any beach could ever be. A good example of that is Waimea Canyon. It’s known as the Grand Canyon of the pacific for good reason. Watch the video of Waimea Canyon and you’ll see what I mean. I wouldn’t suggest traveling it alone, but with some locals you will find some of the most amazing places.

Estelle mingles with Hawaiian locals after a swim in a secret cave on Kauai’s northshore

Looks like Estelle, my favorite video tour guide, found some locals to help her out. Speaking of locals, Hawaii has some of the most amazing people. If you can find a way to get to know the locals then they truely will treat you like Ohana (or family). They take you and do everything they can to show you a good time. They are some of the most amazing entertainers I’ve ever seen. Must be something in the water in Hawaii.

Once you finish drooling and dreaming about Hawaii take a look at all the other videos, free podcasts and travel info on Talk about a collection of travel videos to amazing places. How much longer until I retire?
