Credit Cards Versus Savings

I’ve always tried to follow a simple rule about money management. Avoid debt like the plague. Seriously, I abhor it. I’ve seen what it did to my mother and father and I absolutely hate it. I understand that it is sometimes a necessary evil. However, credit cards are really risky if you don’t know how to manage them correctly. Take a look at this website that teaches about credit cards.

It’s a pretty straightforward site that is packed full of information. In fact, I’d almost say that there is too much information on the site. I’ve got a large screen and I had to scroll a full 10 screens to get to the end of all the information they had on credit cards. Since I’m a technology guy, there is some layout things that could be done to improve the page. However, the information on that site is good. The most important thing it said was to look at your credit card as a high interest loan. That’s exactly what it is. Why do you think credit card companies can afford to send you thousands of letters trying to get you to sign up for a credit card? Easy, they are making stacks of money from the high interest rates.

My best advice to you is to Pay Off Your Credit Cards ASAP and Avoid Debt like the PLAGUE!!

Once you do this, you’ll feel so much better. Not to mention, without debt you might actually have some savings. With savings you can start looking at various Banking Investment Services that will actually start paying you interest as opposed to having to pay interest. That’s an awesome feeling when your money starts working for you rather than your credit eating at you. It will be one of the best days of your life.

Bush Signs in New Law Crippling Internet Gambling

Placing bets over the Internet was effectively criminalized by the federal government yesterday, as lawmakers work to eliminate an activity enjoyed by as many as 23 million Americans who wagered an estimated $6 billion last year.

Today, Bush signed into law a bill that lays a major blow to online gambling as we know it. Here’s more details on the new bill.

Attached to a port-security bill signed by President Bush yesterday was the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, which prohibits online gamblers from using credit cards, checks and electronic fund transfers to place and settle bets. The law puts enforcement on the shoulders of banks and other U.S. financial institutions, some of which fought the legislation.

I’m so grateful that Bush and our government put this into effect. There are way too many children that are becoming addicted to online gambling. It’s a sad epidemic that is still going to continue in some other way, but at least this new bill will hopefully prevent many people from wasting their money gambling.

Don’t get me wrong. I love to play poker with friends. I know all the poker rules out there. My wife and I love to play against each other (she always beats me). However, anyone that wastes there money gambling is walking a fine line of addiction. I live in Las Vegas so I know all about it. Yes, I know that many people can control themselves and only spend a few dollars. However, for every story of people controlling themselves there are stories of broken families, lost savings, and addiction that tears people apart.

I think this bill is a great step in the right direction to preventing children from participating in gambling online.

Time to Buy a Luxury Car

Today I was coming home from work and my scooter ran out of gas. You can’t imagine how much that sucked. The problem is that it was still telling me that the tank was full. After walking to the gas station, I wanted to throw my scooter off a cliff.

Therefore, when I returned home I started looking at new luxury cars. I’m super impressed with what Audi is offering in their vehicles. I think that the Audi design is one of the slickest luxury car designs out there. Take a look at what I mean:
There are even a couple Audis (A6 and A8) that are bulletproof. I could see this becoming more and more useful. Someone at work was telling me about how they were driving home yesterday in a shady part of Las Vegas and they heard a sound like a gun. She looked around to see if she’d been shot. Turns out it was only an egg that someone threw at her car. Amazing that getting shot could be considered as a possibility these days.

I guess the bulletproof Audi might be worth it.

Getting College Degrees Online

Today I saw a press release from a “University” that seems to be doing online education the right way. They partner with community colleges and state schools to offer 76 graduate and undergraduate specializations and 16 certificate specializations. Capella University serves 16,000 students in higher education from all 50 states and 63 countries.

Talk about growth. Capella University looks like a great option for people that aren’t able to attend regular classes. With such a wide selection of online degrees you can see why getting a degree online with Capella University sounds so good. Here’s a few examples of the types of majors they have available: graduate degree programs in business, information technology, education, human services, and psychology, and bachelor’s degree programs in business and information technology.

They don’t cover everything, but it looks like a well run business that is trying to change the way higher education is done. I can’t imagine how beneficial this will be in developing countries.

Record Any Computer Sound as MP3

I found a great little FREE program that is able to record the sound on your computer into an MP3 file. What a great idea. If you think about it, it really is just like you having a tape in your car and recording the radio. Should we call this tape recording 2.0?

The program is called MP3myMP3 Recorder 2.0. I could also see this useful for other things you might do online. If you are a business using skype to do business then you could easily record those phone conversations. For that matter if you want to make a phone call and have it recorded then you could easily use skype to call someone and then record it electronically.

Wow…the more I type the more uses I find for recording what’s coming out of your speakers. I will put 2 warnings. Be very careful of copyrights. Also, there are certainly many laws that regulate recording phone conversations with people. I’m not responsible for any of that. I would never record a conversation anyway. At least not of someone I know well and want to use that conversation to embarrass them at some future occassion.

Here’s a better description of how the mp3 recording software works:
Record internet radio and save to mp3 or wav. Record streaming audio from the Internet, microphone, or any other source for that matter. MP3myMP3 Recorder works directly with your system sound card – if you can hear it, you can record it! Use the scan tool to list all mp3, wav, aif, swa, or sun au audio files on your computer – then play and record portions of any of these files. MP3myMP3 Recorder offers customizable colors, timer, on top mode, and skinning.

his program is meant to be extremely intuitive to use, with enough features to get the job done quickly and easily…

1. Select the audio source you wish to record from.(Choose Stereo Mix or Wave mix or similar this will record all audio through your sound card.)

2. Open your favorite audio player. ie (WinAmp) and start playing something.

3. The combination of the settings below ultimately determines the overall recording input level. Fine tune your recording levels so that the meter on the right just hits the bottom of the red zone at the loudest point of the audio you are recording.
a)Player audio level
b)Master Volume Level
c)Recording Level

4. Click the Record button.

5. Click Stop when you’re ready to end the recording.

6. Click the Play button to listen to your recording.

7. Check your Mp3 Export settings.

8. Save your recording to a Wave file or an Mp3 file or both.

Use the scan tool to list all Mp3’s and Wav, Aif, Swa or Sun Au audio files on your entire computer. You can play and record portions of any of these files.

Pleural Mesothelioma and Other Forms of Mesothelioma Cancer

Posted on: September 21, 2006 I Written By

Test to see if this appears.

A while back I came across the word Mesothelioma on the list of Google Adsense words that people pay big money for. Well, Mesothelioma is a form of cancer. Pleural mesothelioma accounts for 75% of all malignant cases however there are two other types of mesothelioma cancer, peritoneal, and pericardial.

Here’s a list of some of the symptoms of Pleural Mesothelioma:

Pleural Mesothelioma Symptoms
Some of the symptoms of pleural mesothelioma (mesothelioma cancer of the lung lining) include:
pain in the lower back or the side of the chest
shortness of breath
a persistent cough
difficulty swallowing food
fever and sweating
weight loss.

Here’s a list of the symptoms of Peritoneal Mesothelioma:

Peritoneal Mesothelioma Symptoms
Symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma (abdominal mesothelioma – mesothelioma of the lining of the stomach) include:
stomach pain
nausea and vomiting
weight loss.

In a search of why lawyers want to talk with people having cases of Mesothelioma is the following:

Mesothelioma is a disease that is almost 100% preventable; the only known cause is via exposure to the deadly mineral Asbestos. It comes from inhaling the particles of dust as the asbestos degrades; eating away at the lining of your lungs and developing into a deadly cancer. Dust that was inhaled in clouds of white powder, dust that was carried home on the clothes of the men who built this country, dust that was cleaned from the clothes by the wives and children who supported their sole provider at home, dust that was packed around the heating systems in houses and offices and schools, dust that carried a deadly price; and dust made a fortune in blood money for the companies that produced it.

Asbestos explains why mesothelioma is so wanted. People that have mesothelioma very likely have a law suit or legal case against a former employer. Very interesting stuff.

Chat Rooms and Social Networking

I use to live in chat rooms. Now I pretty much live in social networking. No I haven’t gotten into myspace or facebook, but social networking in the blogosphere has been quite entertaining for me.

Also, since I’m a tech addict I’ve loved to see the various social networking technologies develop.

Today I came across and simple, but nice innovation on chat rooms and social networking called They take a chatroom and make it so the chat users can create social networks. I think it’s a great idea. People love being able to chat and by tieing it to social networking it adds a new level to the relationship between those people chatting.

I will warn you that chat rooms can be completely addicting. They are great if you need to pass the time. Add in social networking to the chat room and you might as well just set aside time to participate everyday.

A group of Maryland Ford Dealers have created a really simple site to help find a Ford in Maryland. I haven’t seen a site this fantastically simple in a while. It has gotten rid of all the fluff and sends you straight to a Ford Dealer in Maryland. It is a very niche market, but for those interested in buying a Ford in Maryland it’s a nice site to get where you want to be.
