I’ve also always felt that there had to be something better out there. In fact, it’s been a topic of many discussions on Cambrian House. You see, Cambrian House is a website where people are trying to collaborate with a large crowd of people in order to build an idea. The question is how do you easily organize a group of people who are from all over the world?

Today I found something I want to try called Vyew. It’s an ad supported site with a premium service for those that don’t want the ads. I haven’t tried it yet, but soon I want to give it a whirl. I think that I might do it with the great group of people that have been working on my Spoil On website. I’ll let you know how it goes.

If you know of any other sites that are similar or better, then let me know.

I’ve worked with it on Greedy or Needy and a few other places, but the is the first install that I’ll be using in production. I’m planning to use it to support my first attempt at a simplified version of my marketing mob idea. Should be interesting to see how it works out. I debated whether to use a forum like bbPress or a wiki and I decided to try the forum first.

I also have an ulterior motive in that I’ll use this experience setting up bbPress to make sure that I’m well versed in it before installing it for the website Crowdsource This. Should be a pretty cool site that you should all check out once it’s up and running.

Now that I have the base bbPress forum installed, I’m going to have to start looking through all the various themes and plugins and see if any of them are must have items. I don’t really want to develop my own theme and so I’m pretty sure I’ll just use one of the ones listed on bbPress Themes or bbPress Showcase. In the end, I don’t care as much about look for this one as I do function. So, the theme might actually be easier to decide than the list of bbPress plugins.

Either way, I find this pretty exciting and interesting stuff. bbPress has been almost exactly the same install as Wordpress and so it’s been a walk in the park so far. I’ll have to see how the integration with Wordpress works. It looks like there’s a few options. I’ll have to decide which one is best.

This is an idea that Cambrian House market tested a while back, but the market test didn’t come back with any good results. I have a feeling that Google with google talk is going to be able to execute on the idea a little better.

I’m going to have to try it with my friends some time. I’ll speak to them in Italian and see how well it works.

Robin Hood Fund is basically a website that lets you create a wish. Each week a bunch of wishes are granted. I actually had one friend get her wish granted, which was pretty cool.

Well, my wife wished to go to Hawaii with my son. My son was born in Hawaii and so there are a ton of friends she’d like to see. We’d appreciate anyone that wants to visit our wish and give our wish 5 stars. Also, feel free to make a wish of your own. It’s free to make the wish. For Christmas I sent him a chance to make a wish for anything he wants. He was really excited for the gift and he made a wish for a holiday for his mum. I’ll translate that for you American English speakers, A vacation for his mom.

Well, he was telling me thank you for the gift, but then he told me that it would be hard for him to promote his wish, because most of his friends don’t speak English and so they can’t vote on the Robin Hood Fund site. I told him I’d do my best to promote his wish.

If you are reading this, then please support my friend’s wish. It’s an amazingly reasonable wish of only $150. He could have asked for $10,000 or more, but he only asked for what he needed to make his mom’s day. Thanks for helping me help a friend.

It really hasn’t been too big of a deal because I mostly just open it at work and let it run in the background. I’m really trying to just help the people at Cambrian House get more visibility for their island called Battleaxe island. In second life the more people that remain in a place the more popular it gets. I’m just doing my part.

Well, it turns out that second life isn’t the only place where you can create virtual worlds. There is a project called Croquet that allows people to build virtual worlds. Here’s the description of the project from their website:

a new open source software platform for creating deeply collaborative multi-user online applications. It features a network architecture that supports communication, collaboration, resource sharing, and synchronous computation among multiple users. Using Croquet, software developers can create powerful and highly collaborative multi-user 2D and 3D applications and simulations.

I think it’s pretty neat that open source software is getting into every form of software imaginable. It will be interesting to see what happens in the future with these virtual worlds. I can see the day that these virtual worlds will be an important medium for advertising. It’s not there yet, but it could be one day. It will be fun to watch and be a part of.
